2021 has brought exciting news for all Consumer Electronics Show (CES) fans, promising many new technologies and innovations that have been showcased to the world. Earlier last week, CES commenced on an online platform only due to the current pandemic we are faced with. CES 2021 started on the 11th of January and finished on the 14th of January 2021.
What is the Consumer Electronics Show (CES)?
For those who don’t know, It’s essentially an electronics innovation-based expedition that showcases the newest and latest technologies of the leading brands such as LG, Samsung, Apple, and Sony, to name a few.
CES was always hosted in a large expedition center with halls filled with special lighting, massive stands with extravagant displays, loud music, and large crowds. For 2021, it’s being hosted purely online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this has not put CES fans & technology gurus off.
The interesting part of it being online is that it will feature about 2000 vendors showcasing their latest technologies. Compared to the 2020s CES in Las Vegas, these figures aren’t much half of what it was originally at 4500, but it’s still quite impressive for online showcasing.
What trends were showcased at the 2021 CES online convention?
One big trend which has left the CES gurus & technological world with a gasp is transparent TV’s & 8K technology. 8k TVs continued to be flooding the market stands, but the one thing which stands out is the use of either OLED TVs or the newer Mini LED displays featuring 8k resolution.
For the gaming world, a new version of HDMI called HDMI 2.1 was released during the convention allowing for much more bandwidth for gamers to enable much more advanced features.
During CES 2021, LG showcased their very innovative features, both the “transparent TV” along with a smart bed with OLED screens inbuilt, which rises from the foot side of the bed.
Samsung is also once again the biggest booth holder at CES 2021, announcing their latest TV innovations to match LG, audio systems, computers, appliances, and every possible application innovation like their very own Neon AI Chatbot.
Samsung released its new flagship smartphone, the S21 Galaxy Ultra smartphone, during the CES 2021 online convention, which featured a striking design, 8k camera, and 5G compatibility. This range uses a 120hz screen for immersive graphics, and a powerful brand new 5nm processor said to be the most powerful in the smartphone industry yet.
Samsung has also released their new Neo QLED TV technology, which makes the picture much more vivid as there are more LEDs and take less energy providing more control over color and density than ever before.
Speaking of smartphones, 5G made another big appearance at the CES 2021 convention. All 3 US mobile service carriers are on board with 5G connectivity technology, which made announcements on their services along with mobile phone manufacturers.
The main discussion of 5G at CES 2021 wasn’t purely on smartphones but rather how users can use 5G in long term applications and how 5G could help solve some issues linked or associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. It also explored how 5G can help improve remote learning & working experiences to aid with the pandemic.
PC and Laptops
PC and laptop innovation took CES 2021 by a storm as companies like Asus, Gigabyte, HP, Intel, MSI, Nvidia & Lenovo showcased their latest technological advancements in computing and gaming.
The standout from all these is Gigabyte’s innovation. The company is showcasing its new gaming laptops with mechanical keyboards built-in with a 300hz screen providing a crisp and sharp, responsive gaming capability, unlike none we have seen till today.
HP provided 5G technologies and all-day battery life into its Folio branded laptops with snapdragon processors & Intel teased their new Intel 12th gen core chipsets called Alder Lake, coming in late 2021 to the market.
MSI has also showcased new monitors and motherboards for their gaming computers. Nvidia has also announced a new GPU chipset but aimed to provide a more affordable chipset for gamers and some other high-end chipsets.
One thing is for sure, during the stream of CES 2021, the most significant gadgets took the center-stage allowing for more exposure. Those came from automotive companies like GM, Ford & Tesla, showcasing the digitalization & electrification of automotive.
In 2021, most auto manufacturers have climbed aboard the EV bandwagon for cars.
John Deere, also amongst the automotive sector but for agricultural purposes, has also showcased their AI & robotic powered tractor.
Another big player in the CES 2021 is the audio industry, as many audio and speaker companies showcased their latest sound technologies. Companies like Jabra, Mobvoi, Phillips, Sony, Samsung, JBL, and more have displayed their new line-ups in speakers, earphones & headphones.
The standout is the JBL line-up, promising updated Bluetooth speakers with power bank features inbuilt into the speaker, speakers such as the Bar 5.0 with virtual Dolby Atmos systems to enhance sound quality built into them, and many more.
